This week the students had a chance to light their creative fires!
They started out by completing a performance-based instant challenge. In groups of five, they used pantomime to come up with a fantastical machine. Each student played a different part of the machine. The audience had to guess what the machine did and the different parts. We had a burger making machine, pop bottling machine and a chocolate making machine, plus many more.
Following that, we read a book called Artist Ted which highlighted some of the multitude of arts – painting, dancing, and singing. I made a horrible joke that I’m always Paintin… The students then learned an app called Paper by 53.
The students were introduced to some classical works of art- Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Munch’s The Scream, Magritte’s Son of Man, Dali’s Persistence of Memory and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. They were also shown a more recent artist, Romero Britto. They were broken up into different stations. Using the app Paper, students had to recreate an ArtBall taking into account textures, lighting, and shading. Using Minecraft (gasp!), the students had to recreate a work of art of their choice in Pixel Art. Choosing other pieces of art, the students continued to recreate them but adding their own flair using watercolours, in the style of Romero Britto, or sculpting clay.
