About Us
Be a learner. Be a leader. Be Kind.
These are the words that our staff and students hear everyday at Fort Rouge School.
We are a small school in the heart of Winnipeg with a great deal to offer. We are nestled in the Mayfair/Fort Rouge community, very close to downtown Winnipeg, the Forks, Osborne Village and St. Boniface. We take full advantage of the amazing learning opportunities that our community has to offer, venturing out on numerous learning excursions throughout the year.
Our population has grown! As of August 2017 we sit at 157 students! We offer multi-age classrooms because of our numbers and also because we believe that our students learn a great deal about learning, leading and kindness by being with children of varying age groups. We offer a Half Day Nursery/Kindergarten program as well as a Full Day Kindergarten program. All of our programs, with the exception of Full Day Kindergarten, are available for 1) catchment area students 2) out of catchment but still Winnipeg School Division students and 3) out of Division students, depending on space. (Full Day Kindergarten is currently only open to Winnipeg School Division students).
We currently have a Physical Education Program, Integrated Arts Program as well as Literacy and Numeracy Support Teachers. We are also very fortunate to have a Counsellor on staff.
Our students participate in the Winnipeg School Division Soccer League, Hoop School and Fit Run. We offer various opportunities in the Arts through the Early Learning Music Program as well as Engaging Fusion. We have also connected with the Manitoba Theatre for Young people to act as a test audience for their plays. Our teachers are teaching through inquiry and innovation, helping students to develop their critical thinking and leadership skills. We believe that we learn outside of our school too and venture into the community regularly.
We believe in a respectful partnership with our families. We value all that our families have to offer and value suggestions and input throughout the year. We have a Family Room in the building that offers various programs and resources for our families, as well as a Community Support Worker to assist with home/school connection.
Our staff members are learners too. We are continuously looking for professional development opportunities to help ensure that our students are receiving the highest quality education possible!
